Steve - The topic covered by the Ingram book didn't strike me as
particularly interesting. A lot of these topics are covered in other books
that have been published over the years. If they interest you, pick up some
copies at a used book store and save some money ;-)
In particular, years ago Oracle tuning was left to "rules of thumb". The problem is that a lot of effort tended to be wasted making changes that didn't solve the problem that this particular database or program was experiencing. Recently a lot of effort has gone into looking at Oracle wait statistics as a more organized method of tuning programs and databases. Unfortunately some authors haven't incorporated these ideas into their books. It appears they are still using a topic list copied from earlier authors. If I am mistaken about Ingram and have misjudged his book, I would welcome correction.
