Hint in a cursor ????

Oracle 8.0.5

One of our developers is trying to put a hint into a cursor (see below)

cursor cust_curs_club HINT SHOULD GO HERE to_char(cus.date_of_birth, 'YYYYMM') He is saying that the c is picking up the hint statement as a comment ( /*)

Anyone know how to fix this. This out of my area.
