Duplicate from Previous Incarnation

Has anybody duplicated a database from a previous incarnation? Oracle tells me that I should just be able to issue a RESET DATABASE TO inc#. I am a little worried about doing this when connected to my production database and catalog (as required for duplicating). If would like to hear stories from anybody who has done this.
