Looking at the scripts you are querying the best advice I would give is close and put away Niemiec's Book (Oracle Performance Tuning tips and techniques)! It has some use, but if you are new to tuning and you said this is a learning process for you, then learn it correct the first time not the old "classical" way (takes way too long and not worth learning bad habits you'd have to break later). Trust me on this one.
Next go and buy Oracle Performance Tuning 101. Now...go...buy! IMHO it's worth every penny. Then get your free memberships from www.orapub.com and www.hotsos.com ,download every paper and article you can get for free and whatever free tools also. READ THESE, the read em again. That book and these two sites alone will put you on the right track to correct performance tuning/management and I guarantee you'll get way more bang for your tuning buck, not to mention the time you'll save and the bad habits you'll leave behind. Also check out www.vampired.net and www.ixora.com.au and any other list member sites/books (Jonathan Lewis, Guy Harrison). I don't mean to seem like I'm brown nosing the members of this list, but they really know their sh*t. Received on Wed Sep 26 2001 - 17:01:15 CDT
