Highly recommend the Oracle DBA Bible by Gennick. It has 31 chapters, each one on a key topic. It's designed for beginners. If you have a question about something you can read the one chapter on that topic and quickly pick up the essentials, along with practical solutions. Even though you've never used Oracle, you'd be able to read a chapter in the evening, understand the basics of a topic and march into work the next day with five practical things to do to.
The Oracle Concepts manual (part of Oracle documentation) is also great, and not just because it's free. Grab some three hole punch paper, print it out, stick it in a binder and read.
