RE: ORA-00059: maximum number of DB_FILES exceeded

Well, that is correct for an Oracle 7 release. But through 8.X you only need to increase the parameter: db_files because when the controlfile reach the limit of MAXDATAFILES, it will increase automatically. Hence, it isn't necessary to recreate controlfiles.
