Sean,
At my last employer there was a union contract that dictated the terms of 7/24
coverage. If you were on coverage, you received 10% of your base pay for the week. If
you received a phone call the pay was determined by the time spent on the phone
correcting the problem. The minimum for a call was 1 hour pay for the first 15 minutes
and 3 hours pay for the time over 15 minutes. If you had to leave your house and go to
the office you were on the clock from the time you left your house to the time you
returned, plus mileage at the approved IRS rate.($.32/mile). When I became management
doing the DBA job the on-call pay disappeared but we were compensated with a more
flexible time off schedule.
The 7/24 compensation can depend on the shop you are working in and the level of
management you are at and any contractual agreements that apply to the workers in the
company.
