Agree, RMAN 8.1.5 was something, but RMAN 8.1.6 is completely another creature. Worth to try (and use for me) :) Frankly to say, I still use old good hot backups along with RMAN, when target DB is small. Catalog database, for example.

I can't tell you why that won't work but I can tell you that I took a course where one of the attendees was an Oracle Support dude and he told me to stay away from Oracle 8.1.5 because RMAN just does not work right. Since I do not use RMAN I did not get details from him.
