I am referring to the excessing pinning in earlier (Oracle7- Oracle 7.3.4) versions..

Sounds like we just crossed wires pretty badly. But, run your browser over to: http://www.luminate.com/solutions/oracle/mamba.html You can read about Mamba & even download a PDF on it. Basically it opens up the database internals to those you really don't want to have DBA capabilities. Personally I like it, but it does take a little work on your part with those you give access to. Choose carefully! One cup will provide eternal peace, the other an eternally ringing pager/phone. Never received an error message, all logs looked fine, etc. But just by looking at file sizes (after the fact, of course) I could see the export was much smaller than it should have been. When I re-exported everything looked the same, except the dump file was much larger and had the added benefit of actually working. Now I keep a file size history and double-check just to make sure.
