Hi Sanjeev ,

Check you have made the entry in correct tnsnames.ora file. If it is Windows NT, first find out all tnsnames.ora using find facility, then make entry in all of them. Also check you are using correct version of tnsping (tnsping/tnsping80).

In case of Solaris check that you have made entry in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora but this will work only when there is no tnsnames.ora in /etc . Some times /etc also has tnsnames.ora in case of autostart listeners/databases.

I hope ping is working in your systems. That is obviously the first step(of course next is tnsping...;-)

HTH,
Rajesh

In your entry try putting IP address instead of HostName.

Thanks for the reply. I already have an entry in TNSNames.ora. I tried Ping
and TNSPing also.

But I still get the same error.
