Here is the scoop as to why I'm not going to openworld:
Oracle Corp promised to IOUG-A that the conference committee people(those of
us
who went thru hundreds of abstracts to work out who would present from the
technical
side), would get the airfare and hotel accommadations free as "payment" for
our
services.
Being part of the committee, the developer track, I sold management on the
concept that
it would be relatively cheap for them to send me and that I was going to do
2
presentations on logminer.
Well Oracle decided that they are NOT going to pay and we will need to cough
up the
$$$ ourselves. Well all the hotels are pretty much filled up but they have
blocks
of rooms( at > $200/night) and since its so late airfare is way up.
So I checked w/management and decided the "dog and pony" show that oracle
puts on
is not worth the $$$ and I pulled my papers from the agenda and decided not
to go.
It appears to me Oracle's stand on conferences is this:
"Openworld is the only sanctioned conference and the rest don't count".
So thats the scoop.
