The CONTAINS clause is only available if you have created an Intermedia index on the LONG column (for Oracle 7) or LOB (for Oracle 8). See the Intermedia help for more.
Other than that, you can fetch the long in a PL/SQL variable of type LONG and use ' IF long_var LIKE '. That works. (Dont know if it is limited to 32 K though)
