Hi Kurt,

A few options I have thought of are below.

  1. Have your OEM events call fixit jobs (with 1 fixit job per event) and the fixit job runs a batch file which pages you (assuming you have a paging system elsewhere on your network which can be triggered by a batch job). This is how I am currently doing it. It won't page you if a job fails and it won't work for node down events since the fixit job is run on the node the event occurs on. It also leads to lots of fixit jobs.
  2. If you have an SNMP monitoring package elsewhere that can page, then have your OEM events raise SNMP events. Again this may not tell you about failed jobs.
  3. Have OEM email direct to your pager / mobile phone. Under OEM 204 if you set your jobs to email to the pager / phone then this would page you about successful jobs as well. In OEM 21 it is possible to configure such that you only get email for failed jobs.
  4. Have OEM mail to an intermediate account which processes via rules only those messages you wish to be paged about. The account would then either forward those emails to your pager or run an OS command to cause you to be paged.

Apart from requiring a modem on the OEM machine, another issue with the inbuilt paging is that I'm told in Australia it only works for numeric paging, not the alphanumeric option.

How are others doing it?

Is there any way to utilize the OEM Paging Service on an NT OEM Console without
installing a modem as is documented
by Oracle in the OEM Configuration Guide? Any suggestions would be appreciated
as we cannot just hang modems of
any server we please.

Kurt.
