Hello Friend,

There are 5 parameters that decide the size of a control file.

Maxdatafiles,maxlogfiles,maxlogmembers,maxloghistory and maxinstances.

For a given database based on these parameters in the init file(at the time of DB creation) the control file is generated. For your DB may be those parameters are very high.Youn can resize your control file by backing up changing these parameters in that file.Refer some book for this as i don't remember all the steps involved.

By the way what is your oracle version? From oracle 8 , i believe the control file will keep on growing (automatically) when ever a datafile or logfile is added.

Uma Shankar.
