Hi!

I go green with envy when anyone 'talks' of taking rman backup 'directly to tape'..

at our site we 'invited' Oracle support to demonstrate it and the backup command running for some 3hrs for a 1GB database.

and this was using the Legato Storage Manager provided with Oracle 805, after that......we've never mustered the 'courage' to 'do it' ....

any pointers on where we 'goofed' up?

Thanks

Lisa,

I think that your somewhat confused here. The three products are not "intergrated" to the point that I believe you interpret it. One can write an
RMAN script to put the database in hot backup mode, then split off the EMC BCV,
and then terminate the hot backup having RMAN update it's catalog.=20 Otherwise
there is nothing compatible between the EMC and Oracle products since RMAN assumes it is sendind data to a tape or other storage media where as the BC= V
is
already a full copy of the database, actually a third mirror.

Is anyone out there using these three products together? I am wondering if EMC's business continuous volume (BCV) functionality has been integrated with RMAN for HP. I am reading over a paper at the hp website and it says these three are integrated, but the examples don' t look quite right to me.

Is anyone using BCV's as their backup strategy? That's what's going on here. Don't ask.

Thanks in advance for any comments.
