Subject: am I out to lunch or drunk or something?
Hi everyone,
=A0=A0=A0 I need a sanity check.=A0 I was asked via email by a friend w=
hat the amount of
RAM on an HP9000 (hpux) should be considering the following:
# of bases on server: 1
Total size of base:=A0 Roughly 1G
Total number of users:=A0 8-12
Not a datawarehouse, no options like parallel server or anything and a =
canned
app on the front.
Oracle version 8i enterprise edition.
My reply was that it was a very rough estimate, but I would think that =
500M was
sufficient for the machine and that Oracle would take up 300M in the SG=
A or so.
I get a reply that their DBA said at least 1.5 g memory or more.=A0 Now=
I have 4
bases on one HP-ux server that total 20+ gig space and over 100 users a=
nd the
Machine has 750M total memory for bases, processes and all.=A0 They run=
just fine.
Fast response and all.
Am I just out in left field here?=A0 I know it isn't easy sizing a serv=
er with
basically no information by phone, but I thought (given the parameters)=
that
500M was a decent estimate.=A0 Anyone?
