lisa,
rman does whatever you tell it to do like a robot ..

it expects --> where to pick up archives from

--> where to dump em (tape/disk)

whatever you do with the archive destination, rman will continue generating backup sets(maybe incomplete in ur case)

what you might need to do is use the list/report rman commands to make sure that u have everything alright.
in the meantime rman would have probably taken another backup without really caring about these issues.

oh did i forget to mention that there is a validate backup option which kinda behaves in a more organised fashion .. checking for missing files and everthing. if u are using this then ......maybe might confuse rman (read --> fail to backup)

what say rman gurus?

deepAk

Will doing this possibly mess with a currently running RMAN job? This happens so frequently I could scream: My arc destination fills up and I
have to manually fiddle with the backups, and move files not included in the current backup elsewhere until the current backup completes. Then I move the arclogs back to the arc dest and start another backup. Would issuing this command at the command line confuse the currently running RMAN job?

I'm dealing with this right now. Once I get out of this mess I will try it out.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Lisa

Hello,

Is there a way to set the archive destination on a system which is running, or will I have to change the config file and shutdown/startup the database?

Thanks, Linda
