Just today I tried logging into Metalink to update one of our TARs and
discovered it had been closed (why it was closed I don't know, it's still a
major problem). There was no way to reopen it via the web site. I called
it in.

Subject: RE: METALINK and OWS
Most of this thread has turned out to be a 'junior/senior DBA' issue instead of about Metalink, but I'd like to go back to talking about Metalink because it ticks me off. I've personally crashed the Metalink database at least once. This wasn't a 'can't answer you now, why don't you go find someone who gives a damn' error, but a fullblown 'End of file on communication channel.' Metalink is improving, but the overall quality still stinks. I complain to them constantly. I suggest everyone do the same. If there are dozens of negative feedbacks a day about their crappy support site they will eventually be forced to do something about it.

A junior DBA at one of my clients has just tried to register on Metalink and here is what he got :

LOL. Is this an improvement on traditional support ? I have recently
heard at another client that an OWS guy crashed his database (shared
with others, quite obviously) while trying to reproduce our putting in
evidence that splitting partitions in an IOT while inserts are going on
(even in other partitions) causes deadlocks in 8.1.5/8.1.6, and that he
asked the client for help. Oh yes, really ? And we are supposed to pay
for that ?
