We meet again (ADC Teleco). I have been putting together a DBA checklist of
things / scripts to check the database daily, weekly, etc. Also a To Do
list. The current DBA is really the unix admin person, so he has the backup
/ recovery in fairly good shape. As I said in our other thread, I will be
supporting this electronic board tester statistics collection application.
My biggest concern is that the application is setup on an HP workstation
with only one HD. That's a no-no and I will be working to correct this.
Hopefully I won't get too much static on this.

Ken,
The very first thing to learn as a database administrator - backup and
recovery.
And learn it thoroughly. The second thing to learn is performance monitoring
and
tuning. After all, a poorly performing database is better than a dead (or
completely removed from the system) database.....
Good luck to you. And something to note - this list will be your best guide
to
'how does this REALLY work?'
