A client is connected to one database instance and after some time the corresponding machine fails. How this connection is switched to another RAC instance?

It depends on your network options (tnsnames.ora...), your progamming language (not all of them have the same possibilities), your code (how do you choose to handle that).

I want to know within database instance how it is maintained.I am connected to one database instance and suddenly that pc is shut down now how my connection is passed to another alive instance.

And another question when an application requests a connection to an Oracle database server through the driver, does the driver connect to the database server directly? or the driver sends a connection request to a listener process, which forwards the request to the appropriate Oracle database instance.
