Hi,

I wonder how to copy a database. I want to move the database from one destination to another. Am I able to copy the hole folder? Or just the database files? If so, where to find them, and which files?! Do I have to create a new tablespace at the new location, or can I move the hole tablespace?!

1.shutdown the database
2.take a clean cold backup of all files
3.copy to the new location
4.recreate the control file

please be insure while taking backup with all possible means.

Assuming the directories in the new location are going to be the same as your old database, you could simply copy ALL files (datafiles, redo logs, control files, password file and spfile) to the new location and place them into the corresponding directories. This is assuming a consistent cold backup.

If you are on Windoze, you'll need to create a new Window's service with ORADIM.

Once all of this is in place, you can simply startup your database.

Moving the database was harder than I thougth! (I don't know what ORADIM is..) Is there no way to perform this task within the url GUI? E.g. Maintenance-> Move Database Files-> Clone Database. Can I use Clone Database to do this instead?

I was able to use OEM's clone database in prior versions of Oracle, but 10gR2 seems to require GRID for that functionality.

That's why I provided the link above.

Well, yes, thank you, I saw and read the link, but I think the ORADIM seems to be too advanced for me..
