hello, when i am trying to do a startup upgrade from 9208 to 10203 it gives me a error after mounting the database .

SQL> alter database open;
alter database open
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01122: database file 1 failed verification check
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/instance_1/data1/system01.dbf'

Please never try to open the database after issuing an startup upgrade command. The upgrade mode is there just for you to run upgrade scripts in order to upgrade your database. Run appropriate i/s/u script [info/status/upgrade] to carry out desired upgrade task. Please read the upgrade guide for your target platform before you begin. Do not issue any commands in hurry, try to read & understand what you are doing. A certain level of patience & maturity is expected out of you as a dba. Remember you are handling Oracle software which it self is more demanding & complex than modern operating systems. I hope you understand what I mean.

My sincere apologies if you think my language is rude. You are welcome to post back any genuine technical problems if you have any during your upgrade process.

My sincere apologies.

1.Is your upgrade process successfully completed ?. If so than there is no logic to issue startup upgrade command and there is no reason to get data file header mismatch error.

2. If you issued startup upgrade command with intentions of upgrading than there is no logic in attempting to open the database while it is in upgrade mode.

3. If above two are not the case than have you followed the correct steeps in manual upgrading before issuing the startup upgrade command.
(a) install target version software.
(b) create new instance.
(c) move datafiles/control files/redologs/SPFILE/PFILE to their respective locations in new instance.
(d) log to new instance & issue startup upgrade.
(e) run appropriate upgrade scripts.

4 If non of above three is your case than what what was your case please write in details. I will follow this thread.

Regards
