Hi,

I am trying to start 2 instance on a single machine of Oracle Database 10.2.0.2.
My H/w and o/s is Solaris 10 with 4GB RAM and 10GB swap.

Can I give 1GB of SGA and 500MB of PGA for both instance leaving 1GB free.I am trying to give sga_max_target=1GB and sga_target=800MB and pga_aggregate_target=500MB.
But by giving this SGA/PGA, and starting the second instance, I get "Out of Memory" message.

The machine is ment only for oracle database and none other process is running on this machin.

How much maximum SGA and PGA can I give for both the instance so that there is
not much of pagging while working.

It is depends on your database type and size.
You should start with lower limit example: 1gb for each database.
after check your workload on database if nesseccary to increase sga size then increase.
