I am trying to access my STANDBY (Managed recovery mode )from PRIMARY LOCATION .

SQL> conn sys/oracle@stdby1 as sysdba;
ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor

i tried TNSPING stdby1 , and it works !!!

I tried the first connection string from STANDBY server itself and it works fine .

Any particular reason for this ??

Thanks

I created a new tnsnames.ora file in PRIMARY and then i could connect.
There is no learning Confused Just recreation of tnsnames.ora with the same entry worked !!!

In another post see DHCP can also cause a problem.If we use correct IP address in tnsnames..it should work .I dont thinnk just because DHCP there can be issues.

With Oracle, you must use static IP. Dynamic IP was never supported (afaik).
