I installed advanced server 2000 and setting up DNS on a stand alone machine. I am not hooked to a network and want to build a network once the server is setup. I installed DNS per instructions, gave machine a madeup ip address and ran DNS setup. The forward and reverse setup and ipconfig/registerdns worked. When I typed nslookup I get:
***Default servers not available
Default Server unknown
Address: 127.0.0.1

You have not set the IP of your default DNS server. From TCP/IP an option your preferred DNS server .Set it first.
