Our Oracle Server database 9i and 6i form was working fine last one year but yesterday due to power failure server was down directly from switch and after that when we start again server and run our application it gives us error .

ORA-01033 Oracle Initialization or shutdown in progress

Please help what should I do?

Have who ever is in charge to hire somebody who is a competent Oracle DBA.

You could try the following from a terminal/command prompt while logged into/onto the OS (which name & version?) as the Oracle user:
sqlplus
/ as sysdba
shutdown abort
startup
exit

While working with database the DBA performed shutdown operation on database.

I do this but give this error
ORA-00333 Redo log read error block 8194 count 8192

Hello Friend,

Shudown proccess is not killed. I think its on loop.
Can't you reboot the system.
I think it should be okay after rebooting

I have restarted and shutdown also

since three days i am facing this problem please suggest any solution.

Hi,
Check the alert log and find out exactly what happend during shutdown process and how it happend.
May be that will help you in finding a solution.

I haven't heard anything from you.. I got a solution for your problem. May be it will help you.
Use this command
ORAKILL <SID> <THREAD ID>
and STARTUP
let me know whether it worked!!!!!!

hi ,
I thing your redo log file has some issues. You need to fix that issue first.If you have mirror copy of redo, just copy and past it.
