I am configuring a database connection on my desktop. I have Oracle 9i client and trying to connect to 10g. In service name I give test while in tnsnames.ora I see entry like test.LRM.ADC.com

How this happen and why??

Where did you see it?
What were you doing to see this?

You caused it but since you did not use CUT & PASTE, no one can know for sure.

May be it is "computername.domain_name".

As anacedent suggested... copy and paste the block here. Then we can assure about "entry" that you say.

As Taj suggested... maybe you are talking about "host" entry?
Usually... the host entry can be string like this that you showed... "test.LRM.ADC.com" which should denote a computer by name... or can be an IP address.

Please provide us with more complete information,
