I'll confess that I had not made the time to even try installing 11g, but similar errors occur on lower versions when OS has not been configured to support X11 a.k.a. X-Windows.
Since on Monday I need to configure a brand new system with V10.2, I'll try 11g while I'm working on this just to see if it can be done.

Hello!
I receive the same error. I'm trying to install Oracle 11g on Ubuntu 8.04.
I followed the instructions...went to System->Administration->Network->Hosts, but the IP is set to localhost, so to 127.0.0.1. So I already have a valid IP. What else could I do? I want to install Oracle on my local machine, not on a remote server, so this should be the right address.
Thank you!
