Hi guys,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g x86 64bit on Solaris.
I followed the oracle documentation and I keep getting errors when I ./runInstaller. The 'warning' occurs during the Checking hardware requirements stage of the install.
I know that these messages are that my semaphores and shared memory are not found but I had set all the necessary variables as advised in the documentation using the 'prctl' command and options.
I made a backup of the /etc/system file and edited to include the set sem and shm values as specified in the recommended values section values in the documentation.
I rebooted my system and xserver fails to start.
I restored the backed up /etc/system file and rebooted and xserver still fails to start up.
Please advice me on what to do.
Thanks.

Hi guys,
As regards Kernel Configuration in Oracle Installation on Solaris x86.
I think there is an error in the Oracle documentation as regarding Configuring the kernel parameters.
I have practically followed all options of configuring the kernel parameters to the letter and I keep getting OUI errors.
specifically at this section
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15704/pre_install.htm#sthref258
It says using the default Kernel configuration for Solaris 10 should be sufficient but its not as I still get the same OUI errors.
I have investigated and it seems the sysntax to reconfigure the kernel is not wrong.
Can anyone advice on this as this is meant to be the bible for Oracle Installation of Solarisx86.
Thanks in advance

I configured my kernel parameters with 'prctl' using the Oracle documentation but whenever I run OUI I get errors for prerequisite checks on kernel parameters.
I eventually fixed the issue by editing my '/etc/system' with the semaphores and shared memory values.
