Hi,
We are reviewing the hardware specifications for one of our client.If anyone has done the same,then please give your comments regarding the same.I am giving a few details of old setup

Dedicated Database Server Yes
Operating System HP-UX 11.23
Amount of memory configured 24 GB
Paging File 48 GB
Number of CPUs 6

Now we plan to upgrade to 16 cpu's.But is there a way (formulae)to get this detail?

Contact the HP guys, they should have a system sizing tool that can help with initial sizing.

It might also help to look at the system's utilization - is it memory or CPU bound?

Thanks Andrew/Frank,
Actually the old setup is for only 500 concurrent users,now the plan is to upgrade to 2000 users.Hence the new hardware/memory upgrade.As the detailed scalability test is not feasible from our end,we are in a fix about the upgrade details.

We have concluded some of them,
6 to 16 cpu's
24 to 36 GB memory
Implement RAC
OS clustering(Is there a requrement of RAC and OS clustering both?)

As we dont have access to this system,it is really difficult to predict based on statspack reports.

Unless the know the current machine is being fully utilized, the proposed upgrade is nothing more thatn a wild guess. Additionally - it's not usual for an application to scale linearly. Any serialization in the app or IO bottleneck could prevent scalability from being linear.
