Isn't it the state you are in? You are currenlty shutting down.

Every time you want to shut down the database as soon as they are all logged off.

No one SEEMS to be logged.
But may be you have an agent (SMTP, db console, grid...).

I suggest that you always use SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE & then you don't need to worry about which sessions are active in DB.

I agree with Ana there are more and more Oracle processes each version. "shutdown immediate" should be automatically used.

Kill the process if you don't know to who it belongs and can ask him/her to disconnect.
I'm afraid this is the only way other than a shutdown abort.

Disable ODM in either of two ways:

1. Reset the symbolic link to the original stub:

$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib
$ rm libodm9.so
$ ln -s libodmd9.so libodm9.so
2.) Disable the use of ODM with a hidden parameter :

_DISABLE_ODM = true

Remark :

Setting REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE = NONE disables the use of the passwordfile: only local OS authorized SYSDBA connections are possible.

Shutdown all the applications that are connected to the database.I have seen this happening if you have Oracle applications.
Sometimes after a session is killed ,the associated process from OS would be still hanging in there.If it is a Prod DB ,we can`t keep waiting for hours for Normal shut down.I have tried waking up the PMON etc. to get rid of that killed session, but it would not.

Dear Senior Members,
In such cases where there is a process that is hanging and not getting killed, would you suggest a Shutdown Abort.

Please advice.

Thanks.
