Hi

we are having a oracle 10g database on redhat linux with datafiles,controlfile,and redo log and archived log files on shared storage. Currently its not in RAC Environment.
Now we have requirment that we set up another INSTANCE on different system that will be accessing same database files of the above database which are on shared storage .In case of failure of First database instance second Instance on different can be used but its not required to have immediated kind of switch over to second instance . Is there any possiblity of having such configuration without USINIG RAC .

you can configure dataguard for that,if your primary goes down standby comes up automatically.
