I'm also not sure if I got any request to enter host string while installing SQL Plus 8.0.I downloaded Oracle 6i and I got SQL Plus 8.0 along with the package.

Hi ,

Username: is the name of the user, for example scott is schema/user in oracle 8 and you can use this schema.
Password: for the scott schema is tiger
Host String: if you using the same machine where the oracle is installed then it is not required to enter any hoststring otherwise you have to create a tns first for accessing the oracle from client pc. then default hoststring is orcl in server if you have not changed the defaut setting,.

Regards. Sanka..

Hi,

I'm using the same machine as the one in which I installed oracle.

I entered scott as username and tiger as password and orcl as host string(also tried leaving the host string blank). but i'm getting the error :

ORA 12154 : TNS could not resolve service name.

Plz Tell me how to Proceed?
