We have one of our testing machine running 9i RAC on Redhat Linux enterprise version with 2 nodes. Recently node2 dies periodically throwing below error in alert log.

ORA-29702: error occurred in Cluster Group Service operation
LMON: terminating instance due to error 29702

Following log from another trace file

Instance is terminating by process 22587 [ospid=oracle@letty (LMON)]
Performing diagnostic data dump for this instance
CMCLI WARNING: CommonContextCleanup: closing comm port
DIAG detachs from CM
error 29723 detected in background process
OPIRIP: Uncaught error 447. Error stack:
ORA-00447: fatal error in background process
ORA-29723: Failed to attach to the global enqueue service (status=32)

And following error from oracm log

WARNING: ReadCommPort: socket closed by peer on recv()., tid = ClientProcListener:6799373 file = unixinc.c, line = 833 {Fri Apr 13 12:58:03 2007 }

Any idea what's wrong, Here is linux version

Linux rac2 2.4.21-32.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Apr 15 21:17:59 EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Oracle version

Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, Real Application Clusters, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production

Have you applied recently 9.2.0.8 patch?

Sounds like you've a problem with your configuration. Perhaps you need to apply best practices.

ORA-29723 changes from version to version, so diagnostics it's complex.

In this particular case in my opinion you need to open a TAR in Oracle Support
