i wan to calcluate the HOurs:MM:SS from diffrent types:
Fields: Datatype:
Itime: Varchar2(40)
Otime: Varchar23(40)
Date: Date
........suppose one employee has in/out 3-4 times a day. now we wan to calcluate the exact no of hours:Minuts:Seconds for his work day.pls let me know how it is possible.
i am using Oracle version: 8.0.5 Enter prize Editon.

1) If possible, get rid of bad design -> do not store DATE (time) values into the CHARACTER column.

Search OraFAQ forum for "time difference". This is a recent topic about (almost) the same problem.

2) Subtract all pairs of OUT time and IN time
3) Sum those times
4) Return the result

Oh no you won't start another thread on this subject!

Wasn't this thread enough? I already closed this one. That would make -at least- 6 (SIX!) threads for ONE problem. What are you trying to prove?
