Oracle Universal Installer not launching on Windows Server 2003 [message #228597]

Hi

Im running Windows Server 2003 and I downloaded and installed Oracle EE 10.2.0.1.0 using Oracle Universal Installer [10201_database_win32.zip]. I then downloaded and installed Oracle client, again thru the OUI. I was able to create a db, setup tnsnames, listener, and connect to the db.

I then ran into trouble connecting to the db thru ASP scripts on the same machine, so i uninstalled both the database and client, again thru OUI.

I then deleted the C:/oracle/ directory so that i could reinstall Oracle on a clean system, and now the OUI does not launch for the database. When i try to run either autorun.exe or setup.exe, it launches a DOS window and says:
"Preparing to launch OUI from somedir/Temp/1/OraInstall[timestamp]' and then just dies without launching OUI.

I can launch OUI for the client just fine, any ideas why i cant launch the installer for the database anymore? All suggestions are appreciated.

That is not the CLEAN method.
Use REGEDIT to clean the registry and try again

I used regedit to delete the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\ORACLE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Services
\EventLog
\Application
\OracleDbConsole

And then tried rerunning OUI, no luck. It launches a DOS prompt with the following msg:

"Preparing to launch OUI from C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\1\OraInstall2007-04-04_03-21-22AM" and then the dos prompt goes away and nothing happens.

The directory mentioned contains a timestamped directories named OraInstall[timestamp]. There is also a log file called installActions2007-04-04_03-21-22AM.log. Contents of this file are:

Using paramFile: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Oracle Installers\10201_database_win32\database\install\oraparam.ini

No pre-requisite checks found in oraparam.ini, no system pre-requisite checks will be executed.

The commandline for unzip:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Oracle Installers\10201_database_win32\database\install\unzip -qqq ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.8.0/1/DataFiles/"*.jar" -d "C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\1\OraInstall2007-04-04_03-21-22AM"

Anything else I can try...?

Have a read through this. Otherwise I can only think you may have corrupted your registry.......

yeah tried everything suggested in the oracle installation guide for windows, nothing worked. guess its gonna have to be a reinstall of OS...

OUI is a created in java. It requires the jrm.
Is JVM installed ?

Yes the JVM is installed, the OUI for client launches just fine, its only the OUI for database that is not launching.

I reinstalled Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition Service Pack 1. Downloaded the Oracle Database 10g R2 Enterprise Edition and unzipped the file. Went into the 'database' folder and clicked setup.exe, it launches a DOS prompt and then dies, it does not launch the OUI.

Does anyone know why this is happening.

Strange...... Do you get an error message? If not, have you looked in task manager so see if the process is running??

Where are you running the install from (CD, Mapped Drive, Local HDD)?

Only other thought could be that the download is corrupt, but it sounds like you re-downloaded the Oracle DB??

Hello smora,

You formatted and reinstall Win2003R2 server... is it right?
Then your OS is in "known" initial condition.

Did you downloaded again the Oracle DB for Win32?
If your first download is some how corrupted?
I experienced the oracle db file corruption once for linux. When I downloaded again... fresh downloaded file... my problem has gone!

Download is not corrupted. Oracle isn't able to handle spaces in the directory paths. I copied all the media to c:\oracle and it ran from there.
