Hi,

We are running SunOS ver 5.8 with a 32bit version of Oracle 8. What are the limits to the maximum file sizes with regards the data files and table spaces? Do we suffer from a 2 GB Limit of any of these files?

I read (here) that perhaps some tricks are required to perform exports and things.

If anyone has some experience with this could they please comment. If possible links to oracle / SunOS documentation (or perhaps some other source) would be helpful.

Thanks in adcance

It is the standard workaround

thanks for the tip. Does this problem apply to both tablespace files and data files?

To be precise, a tablespace is logical.
A Datafile is physical. One or more datafile will make a tablespace.
So there is nothing called as "tablespace files".
A 32 bit OS file cannot grow more than 2gb.
So oracle tablespaces must use multiple datafile that are less than 2gb. For exported dumps etc, you can use the said procedure using pipes to create multiple files.
