Hi All,
I am performing backup and recovery using RMAN on Oracle 9i. I am using Control file while backing the databases. I am not using Recovery catalog.
I have few doubts on this:
Q1). What are the major disadvantages of using Control file for Oracle database backup?
Q2). I don't want to use Recovery catalog for any backup operation. I want to use only Control file Is it possible?
Please help me.
Regards,
Kamal

Hi Mahesh,
Thanks alot for the useful information.
I have one more query:
Q1). Do I need to have a separate database to create Recovery Catalog?
Q2). Assume that I want to backup a database --> DB1.
I want to use Recovery catalog. In this case can create the Recovery Catalog in DB1?
Or do I need to have separate database like -->DB2?
Please help me.
Regards,
Kamal

Thanks Mahesh,
I have one more query about the size of a control file on Windows. I have read that the size of a Control file will be increased based on the Operating System.
Q1). What is the maximum size of a control file on Windows Operating System?
Q2). Is there any difference in the size of a control file on different Windows versions such as Win 2000, 2003, xp?
Please help me.
Regards,
Kamalakar.
