Dear all
i was installing oracsle9iAS on a windows xp machine named "Alfa", during the setup i get an error saying that the computer name needs to be fully qualified like Alfa.something.bla like a domain computer , also it says to edit the host file
is it a requirement that the computer join a domain in order to setup oracle9iAS ?

No it is not compulsory just change ur computer name to fully qualified domain name, it is requirement after release of 9i products.
