What is the advantage of collecting field data using XML vs. collecting the data using excel or access?

$10 word meaning that the data which consists of dissimilar or diverse characteristics can be more easily handled/processed.

From my point of view, the biggest advantage to XML is that the data is easily read and understood. Your import mechanism of ACCESS or Excel can change and you don't have to refigure out everything.
