why do we need a listener?
i've a listener configured on the host on which my instance is running.
i stopped the listener using lsnrctl.
but still i can use sqlplus to connect to the instance.
so what's the need of a listener?
is it to talk to the instance from different hosts than the one on which the listener is running?
if so, what are the steps to configure connectivity from a different host(s) than the one that the instance is running on?
appreciate the feedback.
