I want to restore a backup of production into my test environment. The backup was done in online mode.Do I need the archived redo after the backup in order to restore the DB or can I just do a restore and then resetlogs.

I did an online backup with archived logs , the backup is on the BCV ( Third volume in an EMC arrays). The archived log is on tape.I might not be able to recover the archived logs from tape .After I restore my backup , I do not a point in time as this is test, Can I open the database with resetlogs option or do I most definitily need the archived redo.

If you don't care about losing the data in the archive logs, you can most certainly do a point-in-time-recovery and OPEN RESETLOGS.
Just CANCEL recovery when it asks for the first archive log and then OPEN RESETLOGS.
