i would like to know the implications if users faced when they have tried to make SYSTEM tablespace as 'LOCAL' as against 'DICTIONARY'.

We plan to do the same but are unaware of the advantages/disadvantages if any ??

None.
But you need to migrate other 'regular' tablespaces also to LMT.
If the SYSTEM is LMT, no other tablespace can be DMT.

Read about it.You will understand. Because , you have no other choice. LMT was introduced in 8i almost (almost 7 years ago). In present times, there is no reason for any oracle database to use DMT. Either you live worrying about space management or switch to LMT with uniform extent size and spend your time in a better way.
Anyhow DMT will be de-supported soon.
