Export is never been a backup. It is logical. It is handy.
If you have your database in archived log mode, why not just do the regular RMAN backup?

both will not work together, export is just a dump of sql statements along with data in a special format which import utility can only read/understand,archived logs are chronological order of execution of statemets along with few other details like SCN etc.,

Thanks
