I'm a 20+ year IT professional. I'm just completing a MS with an emphasis on DB technologies - focused on Oracle. I've passed the first test in the Oracle DBA certification series. I've been a developer, application manager, business systems analyst, and am now working as a project manager.
I want to make the transition to DBA work. I've discovered that I love it. Of course, the problem is how to make that type of career transition.
Any suggestions would be welcome. I'm located in Southern California.

Hit the job web sites. Ring the agencies. Sell your body at a 'low' rate for 12 months to get the experience. Maybe do part-time, student rate work at a University or research organisation. Where did you get your MS? Did you 'suck up' to any of the academics? If yes, ask them. If no, then try sucking up now.
