Hi

Any one plz let me know the answer for this question. The scenario is as follows:

My database always run in archive log mode. On 1-Nov-05 at 9:00PM i took cold backup of my database. on 2-Nov-05 at 9:00PM i took hot backup of my database. 3-Nov-05 at 10AM i created a new database for an existing tablespace. By 11:00AM my datafile has got corrupted or it has got deleted. In my previous backup that datafile backup is not available but database is running in archive log mode. Now is it possible to retrieve the data? If its possible what is the procedure?

Plz let me know.

Thanks,
Praveen

1) Can you not experiment with this scenario and see for yourself what happens?

2) You added a datafile. When does (or did) this get added to the backup in archivelog mode? In taking a hot backup, what are the three major steps you have to take? (Offline the tablespace, copy the datafiles, online the tablespace.) When did that happen since you added the datafile?

3) How do you add a database to a tablespace?

As i said my database is running in archive log mode, 2nd nov night 21:00PM i took hot backup, on 3rd Nov by 10:00AM i added the datafile to an existing tablespace and i though to take hot backup as usual at 21:00PM at night. But unfortunately this datafile has got deleted by 11:00AM itself. Now is it possible to get my one hour (in between 10:00AM to 11:00AM) data?

Regards,
Praveen

You can recover a datafile even if you dont have its backup , provided the database should be in archive log mode.
