Subscription is free, but you cannot view the OraFAQ content without paying.
We've politely requested them to remove the articles in question months ago. I'm not sure what can be done next.
Best regards.

You could put two links on the front of this site. One would say, "click here to view the content". The other would say, "click here to view the exact same content, except pay money to do so". The second link would point to sswug.

I recall that Tom Kyte once had a similar problem where some web site was either trying to charge money to view his code without his permission or implying that it was their code. As I recall, he contacted them and was successful at stopping them. You might ask Tom what tactics he used. I imagine that there is appropriate legal action that can be taken and once you tell someone that you will take such specific legal action if they do not stop, that should put an end to it. I imagine Tom has the advantage of having some legal staff available to Oracle for consultation.

SSWUG doesn't claim ownership of the articles, and there is nothing stopping you from charging others a fee to access your Web site. It is no different than doing a Google search and seeing a link to an article here (or elsewhere). You don't pay for access to Google (advertisers pay to make Google run), but you do have to pay for access to SSWUG. Or looked at another way, how is it any different than a professional journal including a bibliography which includes references to public domain material?

The huge difference (in my opinion) is that no self-respecting journal would copy an article word for word. They would at least put some effort in it themselves.
