Hello,
I have just installed Oracle 10g client on my PC. I already have Oracle 7 and 9i installed. I created the SQLNET.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA files via Net Manager and successfully tested the link to a database. However when I try to create a new ODBC link the TNS Service Name drop down list does not have my TNSNAMES entries but instead has $ and MZ. I tried manually typing in my TNSNAMES serice name but I get the error : ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified . I have checked the permissions on the directories and they look OK, I have the ORACLE_HOME in my system Path and I have rebooted my machine many many times.
Why is it not picking up my tnsnames entries ?
Anyone any ideas please.

Hello.
Yes one box has all three Oracle versions on it. I can create ODBC connections fine with the Oracle 7 and Oracle 9i drivers. Its just Oracle 10g that has a problem
I can TNSPING and SQLPLUS to my database via the 10g tnsnames. It is just the ODBC driver that seems to be a problem. Perhaps the ODBC driver is corrupt somehow. I know with Oracle 9i Oracle shipped the wrong version of a dll but I haven't found evidence that this has happened here too.
Also I am running on Windows XP SP1.

Hi
While installing 10g did you install all the drivers also because there is lot of enhancements in drivers of Oracle from 7 to 10g.
And try to stop all odbc connections of 7 and 9i and try only with 10g.
Thanks

Hello
Thankyou for your reply
I ran the basic instant client install from the Oracle 10g CD which created the Microsoft ODBC Administor then re-ran a custom install to install the Oracle Network Utilities. I have new dlls, such as sqlora32.dll and sqloras32.dll in my Oracle 10g client directory. They are at a different version to those same files in my Oracle 9i directory
