Let's assume that you have a 'config' of '[my_app]' in the formswed.cfg with a 'userid=myid/@mydb.world' default userid line. In the cgicmd.dat file in the '...\reports\conf' directory you need the signon for running reports eg. 'mydb.world: userid=repuser/repuser@mydb.world %*'. This line MUST be preceded by a blank line. EACH report signon line must be preceded by a blank line.

hi everybody

thaks djmartin for your reply. i sawcgicmd.dat in reports folder and i think it has blank lines before report signon as you suggested(the problem is still there).it was working fine previously , but all of a sudden it stopped working with the exception error. i'm pasting the code of cgicmd.dat as follows:
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; ;
; Oracle9iAS Reports Services ;
; CGICMD.DAT ;
; ;
; Example CGICMD.DAT Mapping file ;
; ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;
; Syntax:
; KEY : VALUE
; Where:
; KEY - the first argument of the rwservlet URL request (case insensitive).
; VALUE - command line parameters and/or special parameters.
;
; Keys can be referenced in the following ways:
;
; 1. Parameter on command line to the reports servlet
; e.g. http://machine/servlet/rwservlet?KEY
;
; 2. Parameter on command line to a reports jsp
; e.g. http://machine/mydir/myreport.jsp?KEY
;
; 3. Within a reports jsp - in the rw:report custom tag
; e.g. <rw:report parameters="KEY">
;
; In addition to the Reports Server command line parameters, VALUE can include special parameters
; represented as "%X", where X identifies the parameter. Currently recognized special
; parameters:
;
; %0 - %9 - 0..9 arguments from original rwservlet URL request. Note that %0 refers to the key itself.
; %* - entire contents (all arguments) of original rwservlet URL request.
; %D - request users to input database userid everytime they run the report.
; %P - request for report parameter form in HTML format. It generates the PARAMFORM=HTML
; construction on the first submission of the URL and PARAMFORM=NO upon parameter form submission.
; %PT - request for report parameter form in HTMLTABLE format. It generates the
; PARAMFORM=HTMLTABLE construction on the first submission of the URL and PARAMFORM=NO
; on the parameter form submission.
; %PC - request for report parameter form in HTMLCSS format. It generates the PARAMFORM=HTMLCSS
; construction on the first submission of the URL and PARAMFORM=NO on the parameter form submission.
;
; CGICMD.DAT Usage Notes
; 1. Multiple keys in this file MUST be separated by an EXTRA empty line.
; 2. Extra spaces are ignored. Multi-line entries allowed.
; 3. Lines starting with ";" character are treated as a comments.
; 4. Comments within a key or key value are NOT allowed.
; 5. NLS language support is provided and can be used (encoding should match the one
; used in HTML request - no language conversion of any kind is attempted.
; 6. For %P special parameter, HTML format is by default mapped to the HTMLTABLE format in this release.
; The HTML format in the future may be mapped to the HTMLCSS format.
; 7. For %PC special parameter, the HTMLCSS format is supported only by some browsers, including
; Internet Explorer 3.0.1 or later, and Netscape 4.x or later. It is not supported by Netscape 3.0.x.

Low percentage idea - make sure there are blank lines after "; JSPs" and "; Paper Reports" comment lines in your cgicmd.dat file.

Another track - you say
Quote:

it was working fine previously , but all of a sudden it stopped working with the exception error.
This always makes me ask "What did YOU change?".

You are using web.show_document, so even if the report server was not running, it would be started.
  1. Have you changed any permissions - either in the database or the server?
  2. Did you add a new table to the report and have forgotten to give the report-user permission to read it?
  3. Do ANY of your reports run? If so, how are they different to the report that does not run?
  4. Have you run out of disk space, file handles in the server box?
  5. Are you using a new PC or have you upgraded your MS environment?
  6. Do you still have TEMP and TMP defined in your enironment?
  7. Do you still have write permission to the directory to which they point?
  8. Do you have too many music files on your PC and there isn't enough room to run your work?
Please give me a 'yes' or 'no' to each item.

David

thanks a lot djmartin for ur reply.

the answers to ur questions are:
1. Have you changed any permissions - either in the database or the server?
Ans. No
2. Did you add a new table to the report and have forgotten to give the report-user permission to read it?
Ans. No
3. Do ANY of your reports run? If so, how are they different to the report that does not run?
Ans. The reports run perfectly ok from reports builder but not by clicking the button in forms(through web.show_document).
4.Have you run out of disk space, file handles in the server box?
Ans. the space is now 3.10 GB, previously it was 3.40 GB
5.Are you using a new PC or have you upgraded your MS environment?
Ans No
6.Do you still have TEMP and TMP defined in your enironment?
Ans. Do you mean windows temp and tmp folders then yes.
7.Do you still have write permission to the directory to which they point?
Ans. Yes
8.Do you have too many music files on your PC and there isn't enough room to run your work?

Okay ... number (3) is our culprit. Have you added the directory containing your reports to the BEGINNING of the REPORTS_PATH entry in your register? Make sure not to delete the other entries in that path. Also make sure that NONE of the directories is empty.

Please do as I asked. If my suggestion works, then you have a solution.

I have a feeling that the show_document command only wants the file name, not the directory name, OR you need to have, at least, the 'drive' designation of your path in the register list.

Okay ... let's recap. The report used to launch successfully and it worked, now it does not launch. Is this correct?

If yes, then show us the code that worked, and the code that now does not work. The difference, obviously, is what is causing the problem.

hi everybody,

thanks djmartin for ur reply

the code on button press trigger in oracle form module is:
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(' http://harmeet:8888/reports/rwservlet?destype=cache&desformat=pdf&report=D:\or_forms_egs\purchase\forms\reports\indent_1.jsp& amp;userid=purchase/purchase@new2&indent_no='||:indent_details.indent_id||'&paramform=no');

the query(s) in oracle report file(i.e indent_1.jsp) is:
1. SELECT ALL INDENT_DETAILS.INDENT_ID,
INDENT_DETAILS.INDENT_DATE, INDENT_DETAILS.REMARKS, INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.INDENT_ID, INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.ITEM_ID, INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.ITEM_QTY, INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.UOM_ID, ITEM_DETAILS.ITEM_ID, ITEM_DETAILS.ITEM_NAME, UOM_DETAILS.UOM_ID, UOM_DETAILS.UOM_NAME
FROM INDENT_DETAILS, INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS, ITEM_DETAILS, UOM_DETAILS
WHERE ((INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.INDENT_ID = INDENT_DETAILS.INDENT_ID)
AND (INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.ITEM_ID = ITEM_DETAILS.ITEM_ID)
AND (INDENT_ITEM_DETAILS.UOM_ID = UOM_DETAILS.UOM_ID)
AND (ITEM_DETAILS.UOM_ID = UOM_DETAILS.UOM_ID)
and indent_details.indent_id=:indent_no
)
2. SELECT ALL INDENT_DETAILS.INDENT_ID, INDENT_DETAILS.PROJ_ID, PROJECT_DETAILS.PROJ_ID,
PROJECT_DETAILS.PROJ_CODE, PROJECT_DETAILS.PROJ_NAME
FROM INDENT_DETAILS, PROJECT_DETAILS
WHERE (INDENT_DETAILS.PROJ_ID = PROJECT_DETAILS.PROJ_ID)
and indent_details.indent_id=:indent_no
3. SELECT ALL INDENT_DETAILS.INDENT_ID, INDENT_DETAILS.INDENT_DATE
FROM INDENT_DETAILS
where indent_details.indent_id=:indent_no

this file indent_1.jsp runs fine from the report builder menu for paper layout and web layout.

the problem is that when i open it from the form file(create_indent_gen.fmx) on button press, the window opens,the smart agent is initialized in the system tray but the pdf report doesn't open at all. even if the desformat is changed to html, the same problem is there.

i'm attaching the report file as attachment for ur kind reference

pl. help me

thanks

Your directory name (D:\or_forms_egs\purchase\forms\reports\indent_1.jsp) has elements that are more than 8 characters in length. Rename your directory structure so that each name is 8 or less characters in length (also make sure they do not contain spaces).

Try that and get back to us.

i tried as u suggested but the report still didn't run..(by shortening the file path)

i found out one thing that when i try to run the following link in my browsser:
http://harmeet:8888/reports/rwservlet?server=harmeet&authid=username/password

the browser just tries and tries but no results come up.

Have a look at the thread http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/53030/67467/. There is a reference to an Oracle White Paper which I think you need to read.

Does the command "http://harmeet:8888/reports/rwservlet?" give you any output? There should be a 'help' facility on your server that will display your server name and the various print queues. Can you find it?

don't you understand.

Do as I ask please!

Also, DROP the 'http://harmeet:8888' from the beginning of your web.show_document URL.

You do have the OC4J running, right?

hi everybody

thanks djmartin for ur reply and sorry for not adhering to ur instructions

the code i'm using for web.show_document is:

WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(' http://localhost:8888/reports/rwservlet?destype=cache&desformat=pdf&report=D:\or_forms_egs\purchase\forms\reports\indent_1.rd f&userid=purchase/purchase@new2&indent_no='||:indent_details.indent_id||'&paramform=no');

in fact i tried with my ip address of 192.168.1.5:

WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(' http://192.168.1.5:8888/reports/rwservlet?destype=cache&desformat=pdf&report=D:\or_forms_egs\purchase\forms\reports\indent_1. rdf&userid=purchase/purchase@new2&indent_no='||:indent_details.indent_id||'&paramform=no');

but the report doesn't show up.

am i following the right code for web.show_document(if i use
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(' http://192.168.1.5/reports/rwservlet?destype=cache&desformat=pdf&report=D:\or_forms_egs\purchase\forms\reports\indent_1.rdf&a mp;userid=purchase/purchase@new2&indent_no='||:indent_details.indent_id||'&paramform=no');

But the below works for me...i have know idea why >< but thx Smile
I wonder if there is an online resource that explains this.

WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://127.0.0.1:8888/reports/rwservlet/getjobid' || substr(v_report_job_id, v_server_length +2) || '?server=' || v_rep_server, '_blank');
