Your reuqest to DNS server timed out. This is not nslookup problem but connectivity issue.

if its a standalone machine, then how nslookup can work. nslookup utility requires a DNS for domain resolution. So you need to provide the dns server name/ip as well in the nslookup command.

In command prompt.. type "ipconfig -all" Check for the DNS Servers IP. This DNS server will be used for name resolution when you give nslookup command & doesn't specify any DNS server.

nslookup command is available on WinXP.
Eg:
C:\>ipconfig -all

Windows IP Configuration

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : XXX.XX
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : xxx

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : aaa.aaa.aaa.1

C:\>nslookup
